French / Italian devotional bronze, late 19th to early 20th century. Wall-mounted bénitier in the form of a winged cherub holding a scalloped shell basin.

A finely cast bronze holy water font (bénitier) for wall mounting, depicting a standing cherub angel with outspread feathered wings, holding a large scalloped shell basin in both hands. The face is sweetly modelled in the late Historicist / Belle Époque taste, with delicate hair, drapery, and richly worked plumage. The reverse shows the original raw foundry casting and integrated mounting bracket with single fixing hole.
The patina is warm dark bronze with golden highlights on the raised areas. A traditional Catholic devotional object of the kind installed beside doorways or in private chapels and bedrooms.
