A rectangular sterling silver vesta case (match safe) of standard form with rounded corners and hinged top lid opening to reveal an interior match compartment. Both faces are entirely covered in finely engraved foliate and floral scrollwork — a dense pattern of trailing leaves and blossoms typical of the high-Victorian aesthetic of the 1880s. The front face bears a shaped cartouche engraved with an intertwined script monogram (appearing to read 'GM' or similar). The rim of the body carries a full set of four hallmarks stamped in a row on the interior rim: maker's mark 'TB', Birmingham anchor assay mark, lion passant sterling standard mark, and date letter 'e' (lowercase) consistent with Birmingham 1879–1880 or a nearby cycle. The piece retains its original silver curb-link chain attached via a jump ring to the side, suggesting it was worn as a fob or chatelaine accessory. The reverse is uniformly engraved with the same foliate pattern, without cartouche. Base likely carries a ribbed or plain striker, consistent with vesta case function.
