Silver Coin Pendant, Republic of Zurich, "Moneta Reipublicae Turicensis," circa 1708–1740

A silver coin of the Republic of Zurich, undated, struck circa 1708–1740, mounted with a soldered suspension loop for wear as a pendant. The obverse displays an ornamental cartouche with the motto "LEHR GIBT EHR" (Learning Gives Honour). The reverse bears the Zurich coat of arms flanked by lions beneath the Latin inscription "MONETA REIPUBLICAE TURICENSIS" (Coin of the Republic of Zurich) and "SENATUS POPULUSQUE" (Senate and People). The coin has an attractive old cabinet tone and shows honest circulation wear. Acquired from Sterling Numismatics, World Coins.
