A complete and remarkably well-preserved convolute documenting a full-day ski tour through the Upper Engadin (Graubünden, Switzerland) during the winter of 1942/43. All components have survived together in their original handmade wrapping – an increasingly rare find after more than 80 years.
The ensemble comprises silver gelatin photographs of the tour, a handwritten programme listing 15 subjects for a lantern slide evening ("Lichtbildervortrag"), and a postcard with detailed snow depth measurements, a weather report, and affectionate farewells in both German and Romansh (Puter dialect). The convolute was assembled as a gift from "Ernst and Anita" to their godmother ("Gotti").
The programme traces a route from Celerina along the River Inn, through the Stazerwald forest to Saluver and St. Moritz, with subjects including hoarfrost on the Inn, the Celerina ski school, an avalanche slope traverse, and an "Engadin winter morning." The postcard references wartime ration cards ("Militärmarken"), placing the convolute firmly in the period of Swiss wartime rationing (1939–1945).
Of particular charm is the handmade cover, crafted from the Engadiner Post newspaper and tied with a red cord. The visible advertisements – Kunz Delicatessen (Celerina), Sporthaus I (St. Moritz), and colonial goods from Samedan, in both German and Romansh – are themselves a small window into daily life in the wartime Engadin.
Condition: Good. Paper with age-related toning, photographs clean and unfaded. Newspaper wrapping intact with original cord. Some minor handling wear consistent with age.

Condition notes

Very good. Paper bright and clean with only minimal age-related toning. Photographs sharp and unfaded. Handwritten programme and postcard fully legible. Newspaper wrapping intact with original red cord. A remarkably well-preserved ensemble.
