Collection of Six Ethiopian Orthodox Coptic Pendant Crosses, Various Regional Patterns, Vintage Hand-Cast
CHF 590.00
A collection of six Ethiopian Orthodox pendant crosses in hand-cast metal alloy, each representing a distinct regional pattern from the rich tradition of Coptic Christian metalwork. The group includes an interlace-pattern cross in the Gondar style, a lattice cross with looped border terminals characteristic of the Lalibela region, a circular Axum-type form with beaded ring and quadripartite centre, a bold rectilinear interlace with hatched diamond terminals, a rectangular openwork cross with cross-hatched lattice bands, and a large diamond-shaped cross with beaded circular frame and central saltire. All six feature the traditional flat suspension loop for cord or chain wear. The crosses show genuine wear, hand-filed edges, and an aged patina consistent with use and handling over several decades, suggesting mid-to-late 20th century production or earlier. Each cross differs in size, pattern, and decorative vocabulary, together offering a representative survey of the extraordinary regional diversity of Ethiopian cross design. Sold as a collection of six.
