Antique Gilt Metal Pastry / Cake Server, Rococo Revival, Repoussé Female Figure & Acanthus Scrollwork, ca. 1880–1910

A finely cast and chased decorative pastry or cake server of the Belle Époque period, approximately 18–22 cm in total length. The piece comprises a slender, slightly tapering flat handle stem — faceted and lightly ornamented with turned ring mouldings at the junction — terminating in a large lozenge-shaped openwork panel of exceptional decorative quality.

The lozenge terminal is cast in high relief in the Rococo Revival / early Art Nouveau manner. At its centre a female demi-figure — almost certainly an allegorical muse or classical personification — emerges from a circular cartouche framed by a sinuous halo-like arc. Her loose drapery and flowing hair are rendered with fine detail. Surrounding her, exuberant acanthus leaf scrolls, floral sprays and fully pierced foliate ornament radiate outward to the four compass points of the lozenge, the lower point extending into a sharply chased leaf cluster. The upper apex of the lozenge carries a scrolled, crown-like finial through which the handle stem passes. The reverse of the terminal (visible in images 2 and 3) repeats the same cast design, confirming the piece is cast fully in the round rather than stamped from sheet.

The warm gilt tone — a rich gold characteristic of mercury or electro-gilding over brass or white metal — and the ornate, high-quality casting are consistent with French or German table silver and decorative metalware of the 1880–1910 period. Comparable serving pieces appear in the output of manufacturers such as WMF (Germany) and various Parisian maisons de coutellerie, though no maker's mark is visible in the images provided. The form is consistent with Continental European dessert service accessories intended for formal luncheon or afternoon-tea settings.

No hallmarks, control marks or maker's stamps are visible in the images. The material cannot be confirmed as silver without physical testing (acid test or XRF); gilt brass or gilt white metal (e.g. Britannia metal) is the most probable substrate given the absence of marks.
